Secretary-General Letter
Honorable delegates!
My name is Daryn Murphy, and I am extremely excited to serve as your Secretary General for HenryMUN Session 6! This is my second year serving as your Sec Gen as well as my second year serving as club Co-President, and my third year on the Secretariat. I am currently a senior at Patrick Henry High School, and this is my 7th year involved with Model United Nations.
My early experiences in Model UN were tainted by COVID and cancellations, but I found a true passion for debate once I reached high school level conferences. While I originally found speaking in front of delegates extremely intimidating on the high school level (I spoke twice during my first high school conference), I later found that MUN helped me to find my voice and engage in passionate debate. This fear and intimidation caused me to originally shy away from higher level committees, but I soon discovered that crisis committees in particular are a huge passion of mine, and that I love the fast-paced environment they provide. Through HenryMUN, our secretariat hopes to make this experience less daunting for all of our delegates, whether they are middle schoolers, incoming freshmen, or well-seasoned seniors. A primary goal of this conference is to provide a welcoming, challenging, and exciting debate environment for delegates of all levels. I hope that HenryMUN can allow all of our delegates to engage in diplomacy and debate without feeling overly intimidated or overwhelmed.
I have already seen so much growth in our conference and our delegates in the two years I have served on our Secretariat, and I hope to see the same meaningful and lasting relationships be built this year. I am so incredibly excited to welcome new delegates into our conference, and I hope this is our best session yet!
When I’m not writing papers or speeches for MUN, I enjoy baking, swimming, and going to the beach! Outside of Model UN, I am a captain of our girl’s varsity swim team, a beach lifeguard, and I volunteer at Sharp Grossmont Hospital.
